Why a Shopify merchant built Karl

Co-founder Stephan Wittmann didn't start in e-commerce with KYTH.: he has run the Shopify store alpen-werk.de for years and knows the daily shipping routine first-hand. The exact friction points where standard tools fall short were the starting point for Karl.

Surprise extended-area surcharges that only show up on the carrier invoice. Returns that get lost in day-to-day operations. A packing table where every extra movement costs time. Karl solves these problems not as a theoretical feature list, but from the practice of a merchant who deals with them every day.

As a mechanical engineer (B.Eng.), Stephan also brings an eye for detail: measurable, robust, no frills. The result is software that holds up in real shipping operations.

OUR STORY

From Idea to Platform

KYTH. Systems UG (haftungsbeschränkt) was founded to fundamentally simplify the shipping process for Shopify merchants in Germany and Austria. Our first product Karl was born from the realisation that existing shipping solutions are either too complex, too expensive, or simply not built for the German market.

From Bavaria, we build software that makes shipping intelligent, with automatic surcharge protection, smart carrier routing, and a workflow that goes from scan to label in under 5 seconds. With Kartuu, our second Shopify app has been in production since August 2026: it turns a gift card into a designed, print-ready folded card.

Beyond our own products, we advise companies on software architecture, cloud and AI and build websites including web design & hosting.

  1. March 2026

    The idea

    First conversations between Stefan and Stephan about the friction in the day-to-day shipping of alpen-werk.de, and the first lines of code for Karl.

  2. 31 March 2026

    kyth.systems goes live

    The first version of this website appears, with Karl as our first product.

  3. 19 May 2026

    Founded at the notary

    Stefan and Stephan establish KYTH. Systems UG (haftungsbeschränkt), both as managing directors.

  4. July 2026

    Commercial register and Play Store

    Registered at Amtsgericht Nürnberg under HRB 46313. On 26 July the Pi-Tool appears on Google Play, our side project for the Raspberry Pi.

    Kartuu goes into production

    Two apps in the Shopify App Store

    Karl and Kartuu are in the Shopify App Store, and since 13 September they can also be found through the store search.

    Kolli in the App Store, Klara in the works

    Kolli counts packaging quantities per destination country for LUCID and EPR and has been in the Shopify App Store since October 2026, now also in the store search. Klara is to answer customer emails and is planned.

OUR VALUES

What Drives Us

  1. We say what we cannot do.

    Our product pages also state what the product deliberately does not do. Our sample calculation is labelled non-binding. We only quote a number when we can back it up.

  2. We take only what we need.

    Without your consent this site sets no cookies; it counts page views without IP addresses and loads no font from a third-party server. The Meta Pixel and Google Analytics for our ads only load once you agree. Our apps work without tracking: Kolli knows the destination country, not the person. The servers are in Germany.

  3. We build what we were missing.

    Stephan has been shipping parcels from his own Shopify store for years; Stefan brings over 20 years of experience in IT. Every one of our products started as a problem we had ourselves.
